Collaborative Clinical Experience
Throughout her career, Lesley has worked as a frontline speech-language pathologist and is currently employed with a school board in Alberta, where she supports students with complex communication needs. She values a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, working closely with teachers, educational assistants, occupational therapists, and other professionals to ensure each child receives comprehensive, individualized support.
Inspired by Evidence-Based Innovation
In 2014, Lesley was introduced to an evidence-based jaw stability tool known as a bite block, where she observed remarkable improvements in speech outcomes. This experience inspired her to create Speech Restored, a platform dedicated to sharing practical strategies that integrate bite block therapy and orofacial myofunctional principles.
Building on this work, Lesley developed a Tongue Mobility Screen to help clinicians assess and “stress test” oral movements to identify key areas of challenge. She also designed a 3D-printed bite block in collaboration with a company in Edmonton, Alberta, providing clinicians with easy access to this important jaw stability tool.
Additionally, she partnered with an engineering company in Calgary, Alberta, to create an innovative mouth model featuring a pliable tongue—an educational resource that helps clients better understand oral resting position, stabilizing points, and tongue movements essential for speech production.
