Bridging the Gap Between Persistent Speech Sound Disorders and Progress. Learn how to integrate principles of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) and the use of an evidence-based jaw stability tool called a bite block to assess and treat persistent speech sound disorders.
About Speech Restored
Speech Restored is a professional education and resource platform dedicated to supporting clinicians in the assessment and treatment of persistent speech sound disorders in school-aged children and adults.
Resources to Build Clinical Expertise and Confidence
We develop online courses, practical tools, and evidence-based resources for speech-language pathologists, graduate students, and speech-language pathology assistants/communicative disorder assistants who want to strengthen their clinical expertise and confidence when working with persistent speech sound disorders, including the application of oral motor, orofacial myofunctional, and jaw stability principles to assessment and treatment.
Practical Tools for Speech Therapy
Our approach integrates principles from Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD) with the clinical application of an evidence-informed jaw stability tool known as a bite block. Bite blocks have historically been used in speech-language pathology to provide jaw stability and support more independent tongue movements during speech production. By stabilizing the jaw, clinicians can better evaluate and facilitate lingual movements that are essential for accurate speech sound production.
The bite blocks developed by Speech Restored Inc. are uniquely designed to support both independent tongue and lip movements. The smaller bite block size allows the lips to move around the bite block, providing opportunities to assess and facilitate lip movements while maintaining jaw stability. This design supports clinicians in targeting foundational speech skills, including improved jaw control, independent lingual movements, and coordinated oral movements required for speech.
Each course provides hands-on, functional strategies supported by video demonstrations, assessment and treatment resources, and hundreds of organized word lists categorized by vowels and speech features. These practical tools are designed to support clinicians in implementing individualized assessment and treatment strategies with greater confidence and efficiency in their clinical practice.
Effective Strategies for Lasting Improvement
At Speech Restored, we believe every persistent speech error has an underlying cause. Our mission is to help clinicians identify those causes and implement effective and functional strategies that lead to meaningful and lasting improvements in communication. We also strive to help clinicians build confidence in recognizing when referrals to other professionals are appropriate, ensuring every client receives comprehensive, collaborative care—because the ultimate goal is always the health and well-being of the individuals we serve.
